Year Three have loved learning about South Africa during out our South Africa-themed instrumental unit. The children have developed their rhythmic, singing and notation skills. We were introduced to traditional South African gumboot dancing and used the glockenspiels to play the percussion to accompany the song.

We have developed our skills of reading notation. We know how different notes have different amounts of time they are played for and we can identify different features on a staff.

We have been using our knowledge of reading staff notation to help us with playing the song 'Put on your gumboots!'. Year Three have worked out which note is which and support each other wonderfully when keeping in time.
