Autumn One My Class

We started the school year in Year Five thinking carefully about our rights in the classroom and what everyone's responsibilities are to allow people to have those rights. We were guided by bible teachings, such as Luke 6:3 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. We put all of our ideas together to form a Class Charter. which we all signed, and will make sure we follow throughout the year.

Linking to the British value of democracy, we have voted for our Year Five School Council representatives. The School Council is an important part of our school life and ensures our voices are heard.

Before we voted, we had a class discussion about what characteristics and qualities a good and effective school council member needs. We decided they need to be:

a good listener

a confident speaker

organised

kind and caring

respectful

inclusive

committed

I think I know why it is important to share and talk about my strengths and my characteristics...

I think I know why it is important to share and talk about my strengths and my characteristics...

After looking at how democracy works in this country and other countries, we had our own vote to see which is Year Four's favourite chocolate.

We thoroughly enjoyed testing the chocolate before we held our secret ballot!

Which is your favourite chocolate?

Using what we had learnt about democracy and the voting process, we were able to think about why we would want to be in the school council or what qualities we would look for in those that we vote for.

Abe wrote a poem to share with the class about why he would want to be a school council representative.
