Activity One

Verb, adverb, adjective, noun, pronoun, proper noun...do you sometime forget what these mean? Create a poem, rap or poster to give the definition (meaning) of each of these words. Make sure that your ideas are clear and will help you to remember how to use these words in the future.​

Activity Two

Do you have a tricky times table that you find hard to remember? Write a rhyme to match the one that you forget. For example, if you forget that 8 x 8 = 64, then you could use the rhyme,

"I skate and skate on a slippery floor.            Eight times eight is sixty four!"

Activity Three

Tackle that tricky to learn spelling; create a mnemonic. Use each letter of your spelling to make a silly saying. For example, to remember how to spell rhythm, you can say Rhythm Helps Your Two Hips Move! It definitely helps when the first word is your actual spelling.

Activity Four

Make a lift-the-flap book for a younger child. Think carefully about the language that you use and what your book is about. Perhaps use repetition, so that they can join in. Alternatively, you could make an adding book to help a child to learn addition facts up to twenty (this will help you to recall them instantly too!). Bring it in and share it with a child in school.

Activity Five

Create a card game to help younger children practise their spellings or letter sounds. For example, make a game of snap. Picture cards and letter cards snap when the initial letter matches the first letter of the words shown in the picture.

Activity Six

Create a new chocolate bar, one of your dreams! Make a poster to advertise your product. Think carefully about your choice of pictures, slogans and even your choice of chocolate bar name. Remember the need for persuasive words and phrases. How many words are needed to convince your reader?

Activity Seven

Use a programme like PowerPoint to create a book. Choose your own subject..what have you studied in school that you would like to find out more about? Space? Forces? Electricity? Add a contents page and hyperlink each line in this to a new page. On each page, add a link back to your contents page. This will allow your book to be interactive and the reader to jump backwards and forwards to discover new facts that you have added. ​

Activity Eight

Try finding words inside difficult words. For example:

• a new envIRONment will IRON me out
• EMMA faced a dilEMMA
• that LIAR looks famiLIAR
• never beLIEve a LIE​

​These will help you to avoid common spelling mistakes. Share your ideas with someone else.
