How you can help your child in Reception

Every week homework will be uploaded onto Tapestry on Thursday. Most of the activities set will require a photo or video to be uploaded onto Tapestry.

Tapestry  Online Journal

In Reception we love to see how the children are extending their learning outside of school and Tapestry is a great way to share this and create good links between school and home. Some of the homework that is given out will be to upload photos onto Tapestry. In addition to this, you are more than welcome to upload as many photos and observations of what you child is doing at home as you like. The more the better!

At Berkswich we follow the Little Wandle Letters & Sounds phonics scheme. During the first half term your child will be given a decodable book to read, matched to their phonics stage. They will read this book three times in school, focusing on a different aspect of reading each day and then take it home with them on a Wednesday. Books will be collected back in on a Friday.

We also have a 'Reading Shed' in Reception which promotes a love of reading. When you drop your child off at school, we ask that you both choose a book together to take home and share. When you have finished with your book, you will be able to return this to the Reading Shed and choose a different one. You can do this as many times as you like throughout the week.
