Supporting Home-learning at Berkswich CE

At Berkswich CE, we fully recognise the importance of the contribution made by parents and carers. We greatly value the way in which a strong partnership between home and school enhances every child's learning further. We welcome any suggestions as to how we can strengthen our home-school links even further. To view our school homework policy, please click on the link at the bottom of this page.

How do I find out more?

There are many areas of the website which provide practical advice, support and ideas for parents. We have also ensured that our website ensures that all are informed about our school's approaches and systems. To find out more about supporting your child in a particular subject, please click on 'Exploring our learning' accessed from our 'Learning' tab.

Weekly homework tasks

After gathering the views of parents, it was decided that across school, all homework should be given out on Thursday and returned to school on a Tuesday; this is to ensure that the children can ask questions in school on Friday if they are unsure about a task.

There is a consistent approach across school, ensuring that:

  • homework will usually have a maths or English focus each week
  • each week, the children will be required to practise their spellings, reading and times tables and division facts or number bonds
  • other subjects will also be set within a half term and will replace the main task for the week.  A timetable for all staff will ensure that parents are not overloaded with practical activities or construction tasks
  • in addition to the main task, handwriting practise will be sent home when necessary
  • a summer holiday homework task will be set by your child’s new teacher, in preparation for entry into the next year group
