Science Day

Year Five’s Wind Power Challenge!

We certainly have budding scientists and engineers in Year Five as demonstrated during our school science day! Year Five focused on the Global Goal ‘affordable and clean energy’ and were shocked to discover that there are people in world who do not have access to electricity at all. The children enjoyed learning about types of renewable energy that are kinder to the environment and that can allow people living in remote areas to have access to electricity. They were then challenged to design and create their very own wind turbine. Using examples of different turbines from across the world, children thought carefully about their design, considering how many blades they wanted to have and what shape and thickness they would be. We were so proud of the children’s team work, resilience and problem solving. They showed such determination to get their turbine spinning! Super work, Year Five.
