Persistence, Responsibility and Compassion: Winning Combinations!

We are very proud of the charity fundraising that Ella and Lola did over the holidays. They raised £82 for the NSPCC by selling sweets. What makes this so special is that it was their idea and they worked tirelessly in preparing the sweets, creating posters and sitting by their stall for most of the day. A wonderful example of our school values in action! Well done, girls!

Evan's Energy for Fundraising!

We delighted together with Evan as he celebrated completing his own challenge of cycling one hundred miles for a charity close to his heart - the Stroke Association. He was applauded today in Collective Worship for his great commitment! The total is already over £800!

Let’s Brew This!

“Come and enjoy our MacMillan Event by taking part in one of our special activities. Have some fun, eat some cake and try our challenges to raise money for such an important charity.”

The older members of School Council 2020 are launching their MacMillan Challenge week on Monday 21st September. As we are unable to host a coffee morning in school, the children are asking everyone to take part in one challenge during the week. Please see our video below for a little information about how the fundraising goes to help so many. 

Which challenge will you choose?

¨ Be a waiter and serve your parents or carers with a drink and a slice of cake. Offer to clear away afterwards too.

¨ Help make a cake and deliver it with your parents to someone you know to make them smile.

¨ Set up a zoom with family or friends. Ask them to get ready with a cake and drink to share with you. To help you enjoy this time, why not prepare one of our ideas:

¶ If your family likes craft, why not chat while you both make something?

¶ Prepare a dance or a song ready to entertain your zoom friends while they nibble on a cake.

¶ Have a bake off and judge the cakes together over zoom

¶ Each person taking part could write a few questions ready for a family and friend quiz and cake session!

¶ Once you have eaten your treats, try a speed drawing competition. Make cards with words to choose from each time - hedgehog, dad, sausage dog, Santa - and then all get drawing in just thirty seconds! You’ll enjoy seeing each others’ pictures!

'Be Bright at Berkswich' - Muscular Dystrophy UK

At Berkswich, we are always looking at ways to support worthwhile charities. On Friday 7th February, the School Council organised a special event ‘Be Bright at Berkswich’, to raise awareness of muscular dystrophy in children. Our pupils dressed in brightly coloured clothes to show how bright and cheerful we can be at the coldest/darkest time of year, beating the winter blues by ‘making muscles matter’.

There was a range of exciting activities including a competition to see who had the largest and smallest orange, a game of ‘orange boules’, a cake sale and even a stand up ‘annoying orange’ comedy show. We are proud that our children raised £523.40 for Muscular Dystrophy UK’s ‘Go Orange’ appeal.
