Audio Editing

In this lesson, we examined devices capable of recording digital audio, which included identifying the input device (microphone) and output devices (speaker or headphones).

We considered the ownership of digital audio and the copyright implications of duplicating the work of others.

In this lesson we practiced recording and re-recording our voices to make improvements – learning the importance of quality over quantity. We all recorded short clips of ourselves; either podcast clips, jokes, football chants or pages from our favourite books, and edited the recordings - removing long pauses and mistakes. We identified the features of a podcast in anticipation of planning and recording our own podcast in the coming weeks.

We used Audacity software to record our voices and then imported and aligned sound effects to create layers in our recordings.

We also formed groups with our friends and wrote plans and scripts for the short podcast we will record next lesson. We had to work hard to think of engaging subjects to talk about for our podcast and made sure to consider how best to use sound effects, what each group members role would be, and how to avoid talking over each other. Great teamwork everyone! A fantastic example of one of our school values in action.

The children were able to evaluate their work and give feedback to their peers. Click on the recordings below to listen to some of our podcasts:
