Discover our Reception

In Reception we love to play, explore and become curious learners. We enjoy hands on learning and real life experiences. Each day offers new and exciting opportunities for us to learn, investigate, try new things and develop are skills to make us confident and determined learners.

Please note that due to COVID-19 we currently have staggered start and finish times across the school to avoid too many people mixing at one time. If you have more than one child at Berkswich then please feel reassured that you are welcome to drop and collect your children at the same time.

Take a look at the different continuous provision areas within our indoor Reception space. These activities are changed and enhanced every week according to the children's development and interests.

Please note that due to COVID-19 we are trying to avoid cross contamination, where possible by avoiding the amount of items being brought in from home and sent home.

Coats

Your child will need to bring a suitable coat to school with them everyday. This will allow them to comfortably enjoy the outdoor area daily and take part in forest school activities every week. During the Winter months children may also wish to bring hats, scarves and gloves to wear. Please make sure each item is labelled.

Wellies and Puddle suits

Your child will need a name pair of wellies to keep in school and some outdoor clothing to wear over their uniform. A puddle suit/rain suit is ideal for this. These will be left in school to use every week.

Book bags

Children will be given a book bag at the start of the year which they will need to bring to school each day to aid communication from school to home. Inside the bag will be a reading record and a reading book which will be changed once a week.

Water bottles

Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle each day and fills it up before coming to school.

Homework

Homework will be uploaded onto Tapestry every Thursday and you will have a week to complete this.

P.E

P.E sessions will take place on a Wednesday morning. Due to COVID-19 children currently need to come to school dressed in their PE kits.

Spare clothes

Children will need a bag with spare named clothes in which can be left at school on the children's peg in case of toileting or water accidents.

Snack or tuck money

At morning break time the children can either bring a healthy snack to eat or buy something from the school tuck shop (this is currently closed due to COVID-19). If your child chooses to bring tuck money please ensure it is in a wallet/purse and is clearly labelled. Your child does not need to bring any food for the afternoon as they will be offered a piece of fruit and milk from school.
