In this unit of music, Year 5 have immersed themselves in Holi Festival and all the different aspects. Their main goal was to be able to hear and play music, using percussion instruments, that represent colour! They considered how different beats and rhythms can represent different moods and colours.

We listened to music from a range of different musicians, and then the children described the music using different colours.

The children learnt about graphic scores and how music can be represented in a number of different ways. They then were inspired to created their own graphic scores to their favourite song, Six from the Musical Six. They really channelled their inner musician!

At the end of our unit, the children worked together to create a piece of music that represented a specific colour. We then asked the audience to guess what colour the group had picked to represent through their music.
