This half term, Year 3 have been exploring traditional country dancing through the lively dances Virginia Reel and Circle Mallow Dance. Pupils have learned and practised a range of dance movements, including skipping, weaving, turning and working in pairs and groups to perform simple dance sequences.
Through these dances, children have developed their coordination, rhythm and timing while responding to music and moving confidently in time with others. They have also learned the importance of teamwork, spatial awareness and performing with control and expression.
This learning supports the Key Stage 2 PE National Curriculum, which aims to develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance, as well as enabling pupils to perform dances using a range of movement patterns. The children have thoroughly enjoyed experiencing these traditional dances and building their confidence as performers.
