3D Modelling Tinkercad

Year 6 Explore the World of 3D Modelling

Our Year Six children have been developing exciting new digital skills through their 3D modelling project using Tinkercad. So far, they have discovered how to bring their creativity to life in three dimensions.

The children began by exploring the fundamentals of 3D space on a computer, learning to add shapes to their projects and view them from multiple perspectives. This spatial awareness helped them understand how objects relate to one another in a digital environment, bridging their mathematical knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes with practical computing skills.

As their confidence grew, the children progressed to modifying objects with precision. They mastered resizing shapes in different dimensions, lifting and lowering objects and adding colour. The careful manipulation required developed their attention to detail and problem-solving abilities as they worked to position elements exactly where they wanted them...not an easy task!

Making name badges, the children learned to rotate objects in three dimensions, duplicate elements and group multiple objects together to create more complex designs. Throughout the process, they also considered the practicality of 3D printing their creations, connecting their digital work to real-world applications.

We are incredibly proud of how our  children have embraced this technology, demonstrating creativity, perseverance and technical skill - ready for some very challenging projects to come!
