In this unit, Year 3 have been learning how animations are made by creating their own stop-frame animations. The children explored different techniques, starting by drawing and photographing sequences of pictures to show movement. They then use these skills to plan and create a short story-based animation.
Children were introduced to 'onion skinning', a special animation tool that allows them to see the previous frame faintly on the screen. This helps them make small, careful changes between pictures, creating smoother and more realistic movement in their animations. As their work develops, children review their sequences to check their progress and think about how they can improve their work.
Throughout the unit, children learn to explain how animations work and evaluate the quality of their finished animations, building confidence, creativity, and digital skills.
