Staying Healthy and Safe Online

Year Three explored what it means to show kindness and courage online. They understood that being kind on the internet is just as important as being kind in person, and that words typed on a screen still affect others’ feelings. We discussed the importance of always treating people with respect.

The children also showed great understanding of courage especially when something online makes them feel worried or unsure. They explained that online problems should never be kept secret and that telling a trusted adult is the right and brave thing to do.

Some of their thoughtful comments included:

  • “Being kind online is the same as being kind in real life.” – Eva
  • “If something makes you feel funny in your tummy, you should tell an adult.” – Rosanna
  • “It’s brave to tell someone if something isn’t right.” – Archie
  • “You shouldn’t reply to mean messages you should show them to a grown-up.” – William
  • “The internet is fun, but we have to use it safely.” – Arabella

During our “OK, Not OK, or It Depends” activity, the children discussed different online scenarios and decided on the safest actions to take. They showed thoughtful decision-making and understood that some situations require careful thinking before responding.”
