Year One learnt about pitch through our exciting superhero theme!

The children discovered that pitch means how high or low a sound is. To explore this, they thought of some of their favourite superheroes and listened carefully to the sounds they might make — like a whooshing cape or a deep villain voice — and decided whether these were high, medium or low pitch.

Using their hands, they showed the pitch of each sound, raising their hands high for high-pitched sounds, keeping them in the middle for medium pitch, and lowering them for low-pitched sounds.

They used describing words (adjectives) like loud, quiet, high, and low to talk about what they heard — building their musical vocabulary and listening skills.
