  • Our Science Policy

Our science curriculum is shaped by our whole school vision and curriculum intent, which
aims to enable all children, regardless of background, ability, additional needs, to flourish
and excel - to become the very best version of themselves they can possibly be.
Science stimulates and excites a pupil’s curiosity about phenomena, whilst satisfying
natural curiosity through their unfolding knowledge. Since science links directly with
practical, hands-on experience, it can engage learners at many levels. Scientific method
is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and
modelling. Through science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute
toward technological change – impacting on industry, medicine, business and improving
quality of life. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect
their own lives, the directions of society and the future of the developing world.
At Berkswich CE, we value science because it is an exciting, inspiring and practical
subject. Our ambitious curriculum aims to provide children with cumulative scientific
knowledge and understanding through a range of units and the progressive use of
scientific enquiry skills to support every child’s development. Through the high quality teaching of science, children are able to build on their prior knowledge and conceptual
understanding throughout their years at Berkswich CE.
Our aim is to provide a rich learning environment, accessible for all, where children are
challenged and excited by scientific discovery – an environment where their breadth of
    knowledge and understanding will flourish.
