Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, regrettably we are unable to invite parents into school for a tour of Berkswich CE primary and nursery. We understand that choosing the right setting for your child is one of the most important decisions that you will make in your child’s learning journey. With this in mind, we hope to provide you with a range of opportunities to allow you to gain an insight into life as part of our special Berkswich community and the chance to ask questions. We certainly welcome the opportunity to support and reassure you as you organise your child’s first steps into Nursery and Reception. We are offering virtual meetings to provide an opportunity for new parents to meet our headteacher, EYFS leader and teaching staff. This will provide a great opportunity for you to ask questions and find out about our community and learning at Berkswich CE. Your child is a vital part of this process, and so we welcome them to join in with the meeting.

Sports Premium

Sports Premium

At Berkswich CE Primary, we have a culture where the contribution made by sports to a child's development is greatly valued. Physical Education and Sport play a very important part in the ‘whole school life’ of the pupils at Berkswich. We understand the positive impact that being physically active has on children’s levels of concentration and academic attainment.

Our team are committed to ensuring that all pupils have a wide variety of sporting experiences; these are delivered through a minimum of two hours of PE lessons per week and also through our wider curriculum that supports emotional health and wellbeing. Children are encouraged to participate in a wide range of sporting activities, competitive events and to undertake new sports to enrich their learning at Berkswich.

The Sports Premium funding for 2018-19 allows us to further develop a sustainable improvement in teacher confidence and a new programme of study based on developing children’s physical and sporting skills throughout the wider curriculum. Our PE leader provides regular staff training opportunities for teachers and teaching assistants to keep them abreast of current initiatives. Staff are also being upskilled by working alongside and learning from ‘experts’ within different sporting fields. Planning and assessment ensures progression and challenge across all year groups.
